Strong maternal traits. Cows are expected to calve, raise a strong calf and get back in calf on their own. We don’t own calf pulling gear and don’t expect you to either.

Easy fleshing. Ability to fatten on grass in good seasons and in bad – you don’t need high protein grain based feeds or mixer wagons to get our cattle fat.

Supreme temperament. We actively select for docility which has been proven to result in faster calf growth rates and easier management.

Leigh, Jan, James and Emma Williamson

Leigh and Jan have have been running Shorthorn cattle on Gairnshiel since 1977 and have sold over 2,000 bulls for stud use since that time. Many of their clients are repeat buyers, with some purchasing bulls or heifers from Leigh for 20+ consecutive years.
